The Conservancy hosted its Annual Meeting and Hike on Sunday, March
4th. With over 60 people in attendance at New Covenant United
Methodist Church in Mt. Holly, Conservancy Board of Directors, staff,
volunteers, and supporters celebrated accomplishments of 2006 and looked
forward to new projects in 2007.
Accomplishments of 2006 included 7 local land conservation projects
and 2 conservation assists totaling in 1,589 acres, for a conservation
total of 7,781 acres. The Conservancy secured $677,000 from the
Clean Water Management Trust Fund and received approval for an additional
$997,000. We hosted more than 700 donors, volunteers and friends
on conserved land and had over 50,000 website visits. More than
$76,000 was raised through events in 2006, including the Queen’s
Cup Steeplechase and Party for the Land. For more information
and details on the Conservancy’s 2006 accomplishments, please
download the Annual Meeting presentation.
The Conservancy was pleased to present our annual Eugene O. Daniels
Volunteer of the Year Award to Callie
Glass. Callie, a volunteer
since 2004, co-chaired the Conservancy’s Party for the Land Committee
in 2006. Under her extraordinary leadership, the Conservancy’s
signature fall gala was attended by nearly 300 people and raised over
$45,000 in support of land conservation.
After the meeting, we enjoyed hikes through mature hardwood forests,
loblolly pine stands, and even visited beaver ponds at Killian Farm,
Killian Forest, and Bynum-Killian Farm in Gaston County.
