What

An 8K and Half Marathon trail race

Where?

On the 1400-acre Redlair Nature Preserve, located just outside Stanley, NC

Google Location

Course Description

Slightly more than half of the trails are wider than single-track. This is not a technical (lots of rocks, wading across streams, etc) course. The course is NOT flat, nor is it excessive hills. Think rolling Piedmont with some punchy sections. Mostly under forest cover, wide variety of forest types. There are some portions that cross or run alongside fields.

There are other trails at Redlair that will intersect the course. Much like running at Uwharrie, Reedy Creek, or Anne Springs Close Greenway, runners need to pay attention and follow the flagged (pink with polka dots) markers and indicators for turning and sighting. Volunteers will be placed at strategic turns/course splits. There will be at least four aid stations for the half marathon and three for the 8K.

When?

Saturday, April 30, 2010. The Half starts at 7:30AM and the 8K starts at 8:00AM.

Why?

This preserve is located thirty minutes from Charlotte and is normally not accessible to the public. The owner maintains over 80 miles of trail through some of the most beautiful ecological landscapes in the piedmont region, which include the magnificent and rare Bigleaf magnolia and endangered Schweinitz's sunflower.
